Sincerely, CASA #1 - Welcome and Updates on Upcoming Events!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another year of school and of CASA. I hope the first week of school has been treating you all well. As it is a Sunday, please remember to both take a break and jump on that last minute homework!

Today, we’re presenting our first “letter” from our weekly series, Sincerely CASA. This is similar to an op-ed in that we will select topics relevant to our community, hold discussions, advertise some events, and just try and open up a more casual way to communicate with our GA.

My name is Kathleen, this year’s Advocacy Chair, and I will be publishing this week’s Sincerely CASA. Trisha, our Marketing Chair, will be presenting next week’s Sincerely CASA. Then we will switch off again, and so on!

Our topic this weekend is simply a welcome back and introductions. So, to get to know our board better, I have asked each of them what color they think describes them best. Here are their answers.

Abby (President): Mahogany Kay (IVP): Maroon Raynell (EVP): Light Blue Iris (Secretary): Pastel Pink Sandy (Events Coordinator): Coral Trace (Membership): Neon Green Jessica (Multimedia): Cloud Gray Cindy (Treasury): Lavender Trisha (Marketing): Celeste Me (Advocacy Chair): Dark Green

To summarize our events, CASA just held their kickoff this Friday, September 10th. We hope you got a chance to attend, but if not, then no worries! You’ll still get plenty of opportunities to meet our board and wonderful community through our next upcoming events.

In addition, CASA is sponsoring The Centre for Asian and Pacific Islanders (CAPI) this year as our 2021-2022 charity. CAPI is a Minnesota-based Asian American organization with a mission of "connecting immigrants, refugees, and US-born persons of color with the resources they need to thrive." They do a lot of work with basic needs, health services, financial training, and civic engagement, such as hosting food shelves and offering career training. In addition, they are the “predominant non-profit service provider for immigrants and people of color in Northwest Hennepin County”, opening a Immigrant Opportunity Center (IOC) in Brooklyn Center in 2018. Here is a link to their website to learn more: https://www.capiusa.org/

CAPI is currently accepting reservations for their first event of the year, a 2021 Fall Fundraiser. It’s a hybrid event(meaning it’s accessible via zoom or in-person attendance), and will include drinks, snacks, desserts, and a band. The in-person portion will be held on September 23rd from 6:30-8:00 PM at The Food Building in NE Minneapolis, and a virtual auction will be taking place at the same time. Students get a $10 discount, making ticket prices $15.

  • Event Address (in person): The Food Building, 1401 Marshall St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413

  • (Online Zoom link will be sent out after RSVP)

Please consider supporting our local organizations!

The next Sincerely CASA will be discussion orientated and topic-focused, as event overviews and notifications are mostly covered by our newsletter. Have a great week, and I hope to see you all soon!

Kathleen
